PMP® application guide
Does a Udemy Course Count for PMP's 35 Contact Hours?
Short answer: yes. PMI accepts a Udemy course toward the 35 contact hours, as long as it gives you at least 35 real hours of project management education and a certificate to prove it.
Does PMI accept Udemy courses for the 35 contact hours?
PMI does not keep a list of approved Udemy courses. It accepts project management education from any provider, as long as you complete at least 35 hours of learning on project management topics and can show proof. A Udemy course is fine if it truly covers 35 hours and gives you a certificate of completion.
Are PDUs the same as contact hours?
No. PDUs are for keeping a certification you already hold. Contact hours are what you need before applying for the PMP. In an audit, PMI checks the hours you actually studied, so a certificate showing fewer than 35 hours can be rejected even if it mentions 35 PDUs.
What proof do I need if I am audited?
Keep your certificate of completion showing the course name, provider, dates and number of hours. Make sure the hours you enter in the application match the certificate.
Can I combine more than one course?
Yes. You can add up hours from several courses, as long as the total is at least 35 hours and each one is about project management.
Do I need the 35 hours if I already hold CAPM?
No. An active CAPM certification can replace the 35 contact hours requirement.
Do practice tests count as contact hours?
Usually not. Practice exams test you rather than teach you, so count the hours of an actual training course instead.
Check before you apply
- Your certificate shows at least 35 hours, not only "35 PDUs".
- The course is about project management topics.
- The hours in your application match your certificate.
- You keep the certificate safe in case of an audit.
Rules can change. Always confirm with PMI's official PMP page.
